BANGKOK, Dec 11 (Bernama) -- National triple jump champion Andre Anura Anuar's hopes of winning a hat-trick gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games were dashed after he only managed to win silver at the Supachalasai Stadium, here, today.

Andre's jump of 16.29 metres (m) saw him miss out on the gold medal to Vietnam's Ho Trong Manh Hung, with a distance of 16.33 m, while bronze went to Gabriel Jing Yi of Singapore with a time of 16.09 m.

The result also saw Malaysia's dominance since the 2015 edition in Singapore ended.

The 26-year-old athlete admitted that he was performing under pressure to defend the gold he won since the 2021 edition in Vietnam.

"I sang a lot of songs earlier and talked to myself, but that was only silver this time," he told reporters here, today.

However, he was happy to be able to jump over 16 m after he last cleared the distance when he won his second personal gold at the last SEA Games in Phnom Penh with 16.06m.

Meanwhile, Sadat Marzuqi Ajisan created a surprise by defeating experienced athlete Jackie Wong to win silver in the men's hammer throw.

Sadat recorded 60.15m, with Jackie taking bronze (59.81m) while home athlete Kittipong Boonmawan won gold (63.11m).

The athlete from Gemas said he was satisfied to beat Jackie after often losing to him earlier and was determined to perform better in the next edition in Malaysia.

The national athletics contingent also picked up another silver through Queenie Ting Kung Ni in the women's discus throw event after recording 51.81m behind defending champion from Thailand, Subenrat Insaeng (58.86m) and bronze went to Le Thi Cam Dung from Vietnam (49.34m).

Meanwhile, 2021 edition women's pole vault gold medalist, Nor Sarah Adi, was a big flop when she finished last with 3.60m.

Indonesian athlete Diva Renatta Jayadi won the event with a new games record of 4.35m, erasing the old record of Natalie Uy from the Philippines with 4.25m at the 2019 SEA Games.

Silver went to Chonthicha Khabut from Thailand (4.05m) and bronze went to Maria Andriani Melabessy from Indonesia (3.90m).

The 2025 Thailand SEA Games will take place from Dec 9 to 20, involving two regions, namely Bangkok and Chonburi.
