Flood Recedes In Perak, Unchanged In Sarawak

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 11 (Bernama) -- The flood situation in PERAK continues to improve, with the number of evacuees in Hilir Perak dropping to 19 people from five families, compared to 83 evacuees from 23 families this morning.

According to the Perak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) secretariat, only one temporary relief centre remains in operation at Kampung Padang Tembak community hall.

The multipurpose hall at Hilir Perak district police headquarters, which previously sheltered 14 evacuees from three families, was fully closed at 3 pm today.

In a statement, the Malaysian Meteorological Department forecasts rain tonight in the districts of Hilir Perak, Kinta and Kampar.

Meanwhile, in SARAWAK, the number of evacuees at three relief centres in Miri remains unchanged at 4 pm today, with 140 people comprising 136 flood evacuees and four landslide victims.

The Sarawak JPBN secretariat said 109 flood evacuees are still housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Suai Niah, while another 23 are at SK Kampung Angus.

Additionally, four flood evacuees and four landslide victims are placed at the Red Crescent Hall relief centre.
