BANGKOK, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has proposed three key pillars, namely financial security, digital security and human security, to drive ASEAN Plus Three cooperation and strengthen ASEAN’s partnership with its East Asian counterparts.

Thai Government spokesperson Siripong Angkasakulkiat said Anutin attended the 28th ASEAN Plus Three Summit in Malaysia on Monday, alongside leaders and representatives from ASEAN member states and the three dialogue partners: China, Japan, and South Korea.

According to Siripong, the Prime Minister noted that the world has become increasingly complex and fragile, and therefore ASEAN and the Plus Three countries must reinforce and modernise their cooperation to respond effectively to emerging challenges in a comprehensive and timely manner.

“The Prime Minister proposed the concept of the ‘Three Securities Approach’, or the ‘Three Dimensions of Security’, as a framework for advancing ASEAN Plus Three cooperation in the future,” Siripong said in a statement.

In addition, he said the Prime Minister proposed greater utilisation of ASEAN centres located in Thailand, such as the ASEAN Centre for Active Ageing and Innovation (ACAI) and the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD).

“These centres can be used to enhance people’s quality of life, promote sustainable development, green finance and the transition to clean energy,” he said.

Siripong said Anutin also expressed appreciation to the Plus Three partners for their proactive and constructive roles in supporting ASEAN, and reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to fostering constructive cooperation among the Plus Three countries to genuinely strengthen the East Asian region.

“Throughout his engagements, the Prime Minister will represent Thailand as a leader committed to strengthening cooperation both within ASEAN and globally.

“He will use this platform to reaffirm Thailand’s role as a partner for regional sustainability while promoting initiatives on digital technology development, clean energy and building a secure and peaceful region for the shared benefit of ASEAN and the international community,” he said.

Meanwhile, Siripong said that on Monday afternoon, Anutin is scheduled to participate in the 5th Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Summit, where he will advocate for maximising the benefits of the free trade agreement to deliver tangible outcomes for businesses and the public.

“Anutin is then expected to meet with the Vice President of the World Bank before joining the 20th East Asia Summit, where Thailand will promote peace, stability and a balanced geopolitical architecture in the Asia-Pacific region. Later, he will hold a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Singapore,” he said.

In the evening, the Prime Minister will take part in the 15th ASEAN-United Nations Summit to discuss ways to strengthen ASEAN-UN cooperation, particularly in sustainable development.

Siripong added that Anutin will later hold bilateral talks with the Prime Minister of New Zealand before attending a dinner reception hosted by the Malaysian Prime Minister and his spouse in honour of the ASEAN leaders attending the summit.
