4,252 Flood Victims Relocated To Relief Centres In Perak, Kedah, Penang

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- The number of flood victims in Perak, Kedah, and Penang has surged, with a total of 4,252 people relocated to temporary relief centres by this afternoon.

In PERAK, the number of evacuees rose to 2,496 victims, affecting 857 families, up from 2,171 at 8 am today. The districts of Kerian and Perak Tengah are the latest to be impacted by the floods.

The Perak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) announced that as of 4 pm, 24 relief centres were operational in the state.

Two new centres were opened at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kampung Dew in Kerian and Sekolah Menengah Layang-Layang Kiri Parit in Perak Tengah, sheltering a total of 183 victims.

The districts of Larut Matang and Selama are housing 1,813 victims across 19 relief centres. while 500 people are taking shelter in three centres in the Manjung district.

In KEDAH, the number of flood victims increased to 1,007 by 5 pm, compared to 258 this morning.

The Kedah JPBN reported that four new relief centres were opened in the Kulim district, bringing the total to seven centres, which now shelter 955 people.

In the Kuala Muda district, which has been affected since Wednesday, 52 victims are still in one centre.

In PENANG, eight relief centres have been set up to accommodate 749 victims across three districts.

 According to the Social Welfare Department (JKM) website, by 4.30 pm, 606 people were housed in three relief centres in Seberang Perai Utara, 121 victims were at four centres in Seberang Perai Tengah, and 22 victims were at the only relief centre on the island, located in the Barat Daya district.
