Noraini: Government Guarantees No Increase In Cost Of Building National Subfertility Centre

KUALA SELANGOR, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- The government guarantees that the allocation for the construction costs of the National Subfertility Centre in Seksyen 17, Shah Alam will remain at RM171 million even though there have been price increases in construction materials.

Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said so far as her team is aware, no increase in construction costs has been reported, and therefore no additional allocation is needed for the implementation, which is currently running smoothly.

“The construction cost of the centre remains as previously approved and is unaffected despite the increase in building material prices in the market. The project is expected to be completed and operational by 2029.

“The implementation of projects under the ministry makes the hospital (subfertility centre) a specialised fertility centre under the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN), she told reporters at the Al-Sultan Abdullah Hospital at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Puncak Alam here today.

She said the project was among the government's strategic steps to address the declining fertility rate among Malaysians, in addition to providing more comprehensive treatment facilities for couples facing difficulties conceiving.

At the same time, Noraini said LPPKN is providing various subsidies and facilities for couples seeking treatment, including fertility assessment programmes and assistance for treatments such as in-vitro fertilisation (IVF).

"Such programmes not only help couples face the challenges of having children but also support the government's efforts to strengthen the family institution and community well-being," she also said.

In August, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) reported that the unit price index of cement increased between 0.1 and 1.1 per cent compared to the previous month, but this small increase did not affect the overall project cost.
