PUTRAJAYA, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- The Anugerah Tokoh Siswa Negara (ATSN) 2025, which honours the contributions of students from institutions of higher learning (IPT), serves as an important platform for cultivating the nation's future leaders.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said this recognition not only identifies and nurtures student talent but also creates opportunities for them to develop their potential in various areas, especially in leadership roles.

"I am confident that every IPT, be it a university, polytechnic, or community college, will continue to offer leadership programmes on their campuses.

"That is where we can build leadership qualities and unlock the full potential of our students," he told reporters after attending the 9th ATSN ceremony here today.

The prestigious awards ceremony, now in its ninth edition, was first introduced in 2013 under the name Anugerah Tokoh Siswa (ATS).

The primary goal of ATSN 2025 is to acknowledge the contributions of students and student organisations at IPTs, promote nationalism, enhance competitiveness, and develop future national leaders.

A total of 11 individual categories were contested in this year's ATSN, including leadership, cultural arts, entrepreneurship, recreational sports, public speaking, innovation, volunteerism, community service, inclusivity, unity, and sustainability.

In addition, ATSN also offered the Leadership Synergy Award (group category), along with four Special Appreciation Awards (from the Minister of Higher Education, Deputy Minister, secretary-general, and director-general of Higher Education). The Anugerah Tokoh Siswa Negara remains the highest honour presented at ATSN 2025.

At the event, Ng Zhen Fan Shankar from Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) was named the recipient of the Anugerah Tokoh Siswa Negara.

This year, ATSN received 246 submissions from public universities, private higher education institutions, polytechnics, and community colleges nationwide, with 75 finalists advancing to the final stage.
