BANGKOK, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Monday presented his government’s policy statement to Parliament, vowing swift action on five urgent issues, including economic growth, security, public administration and legal reform, while steering the country towards sustainable development.
He said that social welfare and the environment are also among the government’s urgent priorities.
On the Thai–Cambodian border dispute, Anutin pledged to seek a peaceful resolution, pursue a proactive foreign policy in line with global changes, and strengthen Thailand’s international standing and credibility.
He also vowed to address challenges in the southern border provinces alongside efforts to boost economic development and improve the long-term quality of life for local communities.
“Thailand is facing widespread uncertainty. The government must act swiftly to resolve urgent problems while setting the foundation for sustainable growth, enhancing competitiveness and ensuring national security — despite being a minority government and operating with a budget not prepared by this administration,” he said in Parliament on Monday.
He added that his administration is guided by three core principles: upholding the Nation, Religion and Monarchy; maintaining commitment to democracy with the King as Head of State; and adhering to the rule of law and good governance for the benefit of the people.
Anutin also pledged support for a national referendum and constitutional amendments to ensure public voices are heard and to encourage participation from all sectors.
However, Anutin, who also serves as Interior Minister, emphasised that his administration would implement policies in line with constitutional obligations, state policy directives and the national strategy, while upholding fiscal discipline, transparency and efficiency.
He said the government would use both budgetary and off-budget funding, with strict oversight to ensure efficiency, while encouraging greater private sector participation in infrastructure investment to ease the burden of public debt.
“The government will do everything possible to govern effectively, resolve pressing national problems, and establish a strong foundation for sustainable development in all areas — ensuring the well-being of the Thai people,” Anutin said.
On September 5, Anutin, 59, was elected as Thailand’s 32nd Prime Minister after securing a parliamentary majority.
Last Wednesday, he led his 36-member Cabinet in taking the oath of allegiance before King Maha Vajiralongkorn at the Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall in Dusit Palace.
The leader of the Bhumjaithai Party had earlier pledged to dissolve the House of Representatives within four months under a deal with the opposition People’s Party, which backed his bid for the premiership without joining his coalition.
