Global Sumud Flotilla To Enter Yellow Zone, Faces High Risk Of Inception - Fahmi

28/09/2025 06:25 PM

SEPANG, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) mission will enter the Yellow Zone in the near future and face a high risk of being intercepted by Israeli forces, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

He said the latest status of all 47 ships and 34 Malaysians participating in the mission was informed by the chief executive officer of the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations, Datuk Dr Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby at Sumud Nusantara Operations Centre here today.

Based on the experience of previous missions, Fahmi said the zone, which starts 300 nautical miles from Gaza, has a record of incidents of harassment by the Zionist regime, and the same is expected to happen to the GSF this time.

"This is a critical moment where the possibility of an interception by the Israeli side is highly likely.

"Given that there have been incidents in Tunisia and several incidents of disruption, we need to expect that there will also be incidents in the yellow zone," he said at a press conference after receiving a briefing on the mission.

Fahmi said the government through the Foreign Ministry is constantly monitoring the movement of the mission to ensure the safety of all Malaysians involved and Wisma Putra is ready to provide the latest information on any latest developments.

He said the government gave its full support to the GSF and Sumud Nusantara initiatives.

"We are in a very historic moment where the world will no longer remain silent and allow the illegal state of Israel and the Zionist regime to do whatever they want," he said.

During his visit, Fahmi received a detailed briefing on the current status of the mission and had the opportunity to hold a video call with seven Malaysians involved.

The GSF's voyage across the Mediterranean Sea brought food supplies, medicine and a message of peace urging that war and the famine crisis stop, in addition to demanding the opening of a humanitarian corridor to Gaza.
