SEPANG, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has taken preventive measures to ensure Zionist propaganda does not penetrate the nation’s cyberspace, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
He said MCMC is actively monitoring the algorithms of social media platforms to block any false or misleading content that may be disseminated by the regime.
Fahmi said the government has also held engagement sessions with social media operators to convey Malaysia’s firm stance of not compromising on the matter.
“As a result of proactive and continuous engagement with these platforms, we believe it sends a signal, and we will continue to counter and block algorithms containing Zionist regime propaganda from entering Malaysia.
“Malaysia, as a sovereign nation, has the right to state its position, and these (social media) platforms agree with the views we have conveyed,” he said after visiting the Sumud Nusantara Operations Centre here today.
Elaborating further, Fahmi said the government’s firmness was also demonstrated through a series of meetings with TikTok regarding the appointment of a former Israel Defence Forces (IDF) trainer as a content manager in the United States.
“The presence of someone who trained the IDF does not send a good message for the TikTok ecosystem, so we have stressed our concerns,” he said.
In addition, Fahmi reminded all parties not to fall victim to Zionist propaganda regarding the situation in Palestine and the Global Sumud Flotilla initiative.
“We must be cautious of any propaganda produced by the Zionist regime. For example, in some countries, there have been viral claims that several Global Sumud Flotilla ships were attacked by Israeli commandos, when in fact, such incidents did not occur,” he said.
