SHAH ALAM, Sept 18 (Bernama) – The 22nd Malaysia Games (SUKMA 2026) in Selangor is set to feature a total of 474 events, making it the largest in the history of the biennial tournament.
According to state Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneurship Exco Mohd Najwan Halimi, this number surpasses the previous edition in Sarawak, which had 469 events.
"The number of events was decided during the SUKMA Technical Committee Meeting last August. It includes 239 events for male athletes, 217 for female athletes, and 18 mixed-gender events," he said during a press conference today.
Registration for participation from each state or contingent will open for 14 days starting on November 1.
Najwan also said that all events will take place across 53 venues in nine districts in Selangor, involving 12 local authorities, higher learning institutions, and both government and private agencies.
One venue, the National Velodrome, will be located in Negeri Sembilan.
The pre-registration for SUKMA 2026 volunteers will open on September 30 during the Selangor Youth Convention at Dewan Raja Muda Musa, Section 7, Shah Alam. On the same day, a campaign to name the SUKMA 2026 mascot will also be officially launched.
On August 15, the official mascot for SUKMA 2026—a pair of white eagles symbolizing strength and youth spirit—was unveiled by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin. The theme for the tournament is "Rentak Kita, Aksi Kita" (Our Rhythm, Our Action).
SUKMA Selangor 2026 is scheduled to take place from August 15 to 24, 2026, followed by Para SUKMA from Sept 5 to 14, 2026.
