KOTA KINABALU, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- A total of 196 people from 62 families have been evacuated to the Selagon Permanent Relief Centre (PPK), Beaufort, due to the floods this morning.
The Sabah Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), in a statement, said the floods, which have struck the district since yesterday, affected eight villages.
"The number of victims has increased by 196 people from 62 families this morning, compared to 121 people from 39 families at 11.59 pm yesterday,” it said.
Meanwhile, the Sabah Public Works Department, in a separate statement, said that several locations on Jalan Beaufort-Menumbok were affected by the flood and were only open to heavy vehicles, including areas at the Beaufort Community College and the Beaufort Division office of the Sabah Water Department.
Meanwhile, the Sabah Railway Department said that train services will only operate from Sembulan Station to Beaufort Station starting this morning due to the route being affected by the flood.
"Services between Beaufort and Tenom are still not operating this morning due to floods that are still inundating the tracks between Beaufort Station and Saliwangan Station, and landslides between Pangi Station and Rayoh Station," it said in a statement.
