KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 (Bernama) -- Candat sotong (squid jigging), an activity synonymous with Terengganu, is among the main attractions of the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025, which will take place at the Pasar Payang in Kuala Terengganu from tomorrow until July 12.
The Terengganu PMR, designed with more targeted content that addresses the needs of the local community, will also feature a variety of engaging activities, including the Explorace Pasar Payang, a Fun Run, and traditional sports.
Themed 'Pembangunan MADANI, Rakyat Sejahtera' this event also aims to instill noble values, celebrate local heritage, and foster unity through activities such as the Terengganu Bermunajat programme, an asyura porridge cooking competition, a squid cooking competition, as well as craft and heritage food demonstrations.
In line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI, this edition of the PMR will also include spiritual programmes such as a Pocket Talk by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), as well as a tahlil recitation for 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris students who tragically lost their lives in a bus accident last month.
The three-day event will also serve as a platform for engagement between the public and government agencies, with exhibition booths from various ministries and agencies expected to draw around 25,000 visitors.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to enjoy free helmet replacement services, 50 per cent discounts on PDRM traffic summonses, and take part in the Career Carnival, which offers around 500 job opportunities. Additionally, MADANI sales will offer discounts ranging from 10 to 30 per cent on selected items.
The closing ceremony is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, along with several Cabinet ministers.
The fourth edition of PMR is organised by the Unity Government, with Works Ministry as the lead ministry, in strategic collaboration with the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister's Department.
