LABUAN, June 28 (Bernama) -- The upcoming Borneo Flora Festival (BFF) 2025, scheduled to take place from July 26 to 30 in this island is poised to draw an overwhelming response from across Borneo Island, including Kalimantan, Indonesia and Brunei, thanks to a strong regional promotional drive and anticipated royal attendance.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia is expected to grace the floral extravaganza, which is anticipated to become one of the island’s most vibrant tourism highlights of the year.
Speaking to reporters after officiating the launch of the Skimming of Interim Report on Agriculture Census in the Federal Territories for Year 2024 (Peluncuran Laporan Interim Banci Pertanian 2024 Wilayah Persekutuan) at Dorsett Grand Labuan today, Dr Zaliha said the event is projected to attract up to 50,000 visitors throughout the five-day celebration, with crowds expected from Sabah, Sarawak, Peninsular Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia.
“The response so far has been very encouraging, and that is largely due to the concerted promotional efforts led by Labuan Corporation (LC) and the Department of Federal Territories (JWP)…the momentum is building not just in Malaysia but across the region,” she said.
Dr Zaliha said to further boost attendance, Malaysia Airlines would be offering a 15 per cent discount on flights to Labuan at least one week prior to the event, making travel more accessible for visitors.
She said the Borneo Flora Festival 2025 will showcase the rich biodiversity and cultural beauty of Borneo through floral exhibitions, garden showcases, eco-themed installations, and cultural performances, promising an immersive and colourful celebration of nature and heritage.
Dr Zaliha also said Brunei would be offered the opportunity to host the Borneo Flora Festival in 2026, should the country express interest, as part of regional cooperation to promote environmental appreciation and tourism across Borneo.
