PUTRAJAYA, June 26 (Bernama) -- The Kota MADANI smart city project in Precinct 19 here is set to ease the burden on civil servants while improving workplace productivity, said Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN), Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
Shamsul Azri said the first phase of the project will begin with the construction of 3,000 residential units, which are part of a total target of 10,000 units to address the current shortfall of approximately 12,000 government staff quarters.
“This is an excellent initiative for civil servants. As the head of civil servants, I extend my sincere gratitude to the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) for the approval to develop these staff quarters,” he told reporters after the launch of the project by Anwar today, which was also attended by Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa,.
Shamsul Azri said Kota MADANI’s design, which incorporates innovative urban concepts, including a vertical school and nearby public facilities, is expected to significantly reduce living costs and enhance the quality of life for civil servants.
“With everything within walking distance, from homes to schools, it saves both fuel and time. It also offers peace of mind, with children attending school on the lower floors, while parents are just upstairs,” he said.
Spanning 41.28 hectares, Kota MADANI will house 10,000 units of high-density quarters capable of accommodating over 30,000 residents.
The RM4 billion project will integrate artificial intelligence (AI), efficient digital infrastructure, and green mobility systems as part of its smart city framework.
It is a public-private partnership between the government and Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd, implemented under a build-lease-maintain-transfer (BLMT) concession model.
It is also positioned as a long-term strategic investment aimed at shaping Putrajaya’s future as a model city that embodies MADANI values and aligns with the CHASE vision - Clean, Healthy, Advanced, Safe, and Eco-friendly.
