Flooding Damages Bernama’s Melaka Bureau After Early Morning Storm

10/06/2025 03:57 PM

MELAKA, June 10 (Bernama) -- Torrential rain and strong winds swept through Ayer Keroh in the early hours today, flooding the Bernama Melaka bureau and causing damage to parts of the office, including a storage area housing electronic equipment and documents.

The extent of the damage was discovered around 7.40 am, when senior sales executive Masiron Kassiran arrived at the premises to find the office floor under water.

He alerted bureau chief Mohd Fakri Awang Lah, who arrived shortly after with administrative assistant Irfan Faiz Azhar.

“We found the floor completely flooded. On closer inspection, we saw the ceiling in the storage room had partially collapsed. Water had soaked files and electronic assets stored there,” said Mohd Fakri.

He said the office had experienced minor flooding during previous downpours, but described this incident as the worst to date.

“The overflow system on the roof couldn’t cope with the sheer volume of rain. It looks like water poured in through gaps between the roof and the walls,” he added.

Fortunately, a recent renovation had relocated the server room to the back of the office, away from the affected area.

“Previously, the servers were kept in that storage room. Had they still been there, we’d be looking at far greater losses,” he added.
