JAKARTA, May 27 (Bernama) -- Indonesia’s elite counter-terrorism unit, Densus 88 arrested a man suspected of terrorism in Central Java on Monday, according to the authorities.

The local man, identified by the initial A, who had previously joined the Jemaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) group in Poso, Central Sulawesi, is suspected of being a JAD sympathiser affiliated with the ISIS (Daesh) terrorist network.

It is also known that A played a role in spreading radical propaganda through social media, according to a statement by Central Java Police Public Relations on Tuesday.

“The arrest of the suspect, identified as A, in Bener district, Purworejo regency, was carried out by Densus 88 with support from the Central Java Regional Police.

“The suspect has now been taken to the Police Headquarters in Jakarta by Densus 88,” said Central Java Police Public Relations head, Commissioner Artanto.

This arrest follows a separate operation over the weekend in which Densus 88 detained an 18-year-old man in Gowa, South Sulawesi, on suspicion of disseminating extremist propaganda and inciting terrorism online.

The suspect, identified only by the initials MAS, was taken into custody on Saturday evening.
