ISKANDAR PUTERI, May 23 (Bernama) -- The Johor government is set to hold the pre-launch of the Semarak Jawi Johor programme on Monday, an initiative aimed at further promoting the use of the Jawi script among the community, the State Legislative Assembly was told today.
State Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid said the programme launch would be officiated by Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
He said efforts to strengthen the use of the Jawi script also involved close cooperation with several parties, including the Johor State Cultural Council and Yayasan Warisan Johor (YWJ) , particularly in discussing the main content of the programme to ensure its success and effectiveness.
“On May 7, a Johor Jawi Week Implementation Working Committee Meeting was held, involving agencies such as Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), YWJ, the Johor State Cultural Council and Waqaf An-Nur.
“In addition, on May 21, a Johor Jawi Committee Meeting was held, attended by the ‘Munsyi Jawi’ from the DBP. This committee serves as the body responsible for coordinating and monitoring the implementation of all programmes aimed at strengthening and empowering the Jawi script in the state,” he said in Kota Iskandar today.
He said this in response to a question from Haslinda Salleh (BN-Tenang) on whether the state government was taking any steps to promote and strenghten the use of Jawi script among the people in the state.
Mohd Fared, who is also the Semerah assemblyman, also said the involvement of more agencies would help ensure that the programme reached a wider audience.
“Various programmes have been implemented by the DPB, including the Jawi Sahibba competition. Johor Corporation, through Yayasan Waqaf An-Nur, has also been promoting the use of Jawi through various initiatives such as the Jawi trivia and Jawi writing contest.
“We also propose that the fourth week of each month be designated as Johor Jawi Week, featuring activities such as ‘Jom Baca Jawi’, inspired by the Quran Hour programme and the establishment of Johor Jawi Corners in every government department or agency,” he said.
Mohd Fared said that any suggestions from various parties to further promote the use of the Jawi script among the community were very much appreciated so that the Semarak Jawi Johor programme, themed “Menyubur Warisan Bangsa, Semarak Syiar Agama”, could be successfully realised.
