KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Health (MOH) has deployed nearly 200 healthcare personnel to strengthen medical preparedness for the 46th ASEAN Summit and related summits here.
This initiative includes the operation of medical rooms at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), the main venue for the summits, at official delegation hotels, and medical surveillance at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya state health director Dr Nor'Aishah Abu Bakar said four medical rooms are operating at KLCC, including one room designated specifically for heads of state.
“Medical rooms have also been set up at official hotels to enable delegates to receive prompt treatment in case of health issues outside of conference hours,” she told Bernama today.
Dr Nor'Aishah said the health teams comprise emergency and trauma specialists, medical officers and trained paramedics stationed at each location to respond swiftly and effectively to any critical situations.
Additionally, four ambulances will be stationed at KLCC throughout the event to ensure that patients needing further treatment can be transported to hospital without delay.
“MOH has also assigned medical teams to accompany each head of state attending the summit to ensure immediate assistance can be provided in case of emergencies,” she said.
Beyond medical care, Dr Nor'Aishah said MOH also plays a vital role in ensuring food safety and quality for delegates. This includes engagement sessions with participating hotels, food monitoring and sampling of meals to be served.
“MOH has also taken the initiative to monitor food premises near the summit venue to ensure food safety in the surrounding areas,” she added.
The 46th ASEAN Summit began today with the senior officials’ meeting, followed by the ministerial-level meeting on May 25, while the leaders’ summit will begin on May 26.
Coinciding with the event are the 2nd ASEAN-GCC Summit and the inaugural ASEAN-GCC-China Summit, both of which are expected to serve as key platforms for enhancing regional and inter-regional cooperation.
