GUA MUSANG, Dec 8 (Bernama) -- Approximately 500 residents from Kampung Batu 5, Kampung Batu 6, and Kampung Batu 7 now have access to two newly built temporary relief centres (PPS), equipped with essential facilities.
These villages are often cut off as their main access bridge becomes submerged by the overflowing river during heavy rainfall.
Gua Musang Disaster Operations Control Centre (PKOB) chairman Nik Raisnan Daud said the new centres, located in elevated, flood-free areas, would bring the total number of PPS in the district to 56.
"We are committed to providing a comfortable environment for flood evacuees at the PPS," he told reporters at Kampung Batu 5 today.
Meanwhile, Kua Eh Say, 60, a resident of Kampung Batu 5, expressed his gratitude for the new centres in his village, which provide cooking areas and toilets within a single facility, offering greater comfort, especially for women, children, and the elderly.
Another resident, Mohd Asri Mustapha, 51, said the PPS offers much-needed relief to those living near Sungai Galas and other low-lying areas.
"Our village is flooded every year during the monsoon season when Sungai Galas overflows, forcing us to take matters into our own hands by moving to higher ground, even if it means trekking through the jungle," he said.
