KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 (Bernama) -- The next of kin of Zuraida Mohd Haris, a haj pilgrim who died in Makkah recently, are eligible to receive two benefits from the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso).

Perkeso board chairman Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said Zuraida, 37, had been a contributor under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 since 2011.

She most recently served as a teacher for the Al-Quran & Fardu Ain (KAFA) classes at Sekolah Rendah Agama Kampung Pandan under the Selangor Islamic Religious Department supervision.

“Perkeso’s assessment confirms that the next of kin, namely her husband and daughter, are entitled to receive Perkeso benefit for life.

“Her daughter will receive the benefits until the age of 21 if unmarried and this can be extended if she pursues her studies to the first degree level,” he said in a statement.

The late Zuraida, who went on the haj pilgrimage with her husband Mohd Azmil Abdul Hamid, 38, died on June 10 due to a brain haemorrhage after receiving treatment for six days at King Abdulaziz Hospital in Makkah.

The funeral prayer was performed in Masjidil Haram and her remains were laid to rest at the Syuhada Al-Haram Cemetery after Subuh prayer on the same day.

Meanwhile, Subahan said that Zuraida’s daughter, Puteri Zahra Mohd Azmil, nine, is a student at Perkeso’s foster school and she is now under the care of her relatives.

He said the deceased’s next of kin had received a one-off funeral benefit totalling RM3,000 today and is eligible to receive a Survivors’ Pension of RM682.29 per month.

Subahan also said that PERKESO group chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed, who is also on the haj pilgrimage, had met with Zuraida’s husband in Makkah to offer condolences and expressed hope that the benefits provided by PERKESO would help ease some of the family’s burdens.
