KUCHING, June 12 (Bernama) -- A veteran journalist has lodged a police report against an author of two recent online articles allegedly defaming Sarawak Premier, Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Murugaiah Meyappan, 66, lodged his report at the Central Police Station here last night, which claimed that the articles written by one Nehru Sathiamoorthy on an online news platform smeared the reputation and image of Abang Johari, hurling malicious and unfounded allegations, to undermine his leadership and achievements.

"These articles not only tarnish the reputation of my Premier but also pose a significant threat to public order and the stability of the governance in Sarawak," he said in a text message to Bernama here today.

The two articles in question were published on May 24 and June 10 respectively.

Murugaiah said Nehru had made baseless and personal attacks against the Premier, which could pose a significant threat to the stability of governance in Sarawak.

"I trust that the police will act swiftly and decisively to address this matter and uphold the integrity of Tan Sri Abang Johari and Sarawak," he added.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Commissioner of Police Datuk Mancha Ata had confirmed that Murugaiah's report was one of the five police reports lodged against the articles, adding that an investigation under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 is underway.
