KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Future Leaders School (MFLS) programme has trained a cumulative total of 82,364 participants since its inception in May 2019.

Akademi Kenegaraan Malaysia (AKM) director-general Mohd Haswandi Ahmad, reported that this year, 20,901 individuals participated in the MFLS Tier 1 programme at the school level, and among them, 6,810 were chosen to advance to MFLS Tier 2, which took place at AKM's National Training Centres nationwide.

"In the selection process for MFLS Tier 3, a total of 684 participants underwent screening, with only the top 150 selected for the 15-day training programme from May 12 to May 26."

He said this during a dinner banquet with Melaka Governor, Tun Dr. Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam, marking the Closing Ceremony and Citrawarna of MFLS Tier 3 2024 at the International Youth Centre here today.

MFLS Tier 3 aims to cultivate youth as strategic partners in national development and to have international capabilities based on seven elements: leadership, governance, personality and character traits, entrepreneurship, volunteerism, communication and internationalism.

The MFLS Tier 3 programme also offers participants the chance to meet national leaders such as governors, the Dewan Rakyat speaker, ministers and deputy ministers.

Furthermore, Mohd Haswandi noted that all 150 MFLS Tier 3 participants will undergo an additional screening to select the top 25 for the MFLS Go Global programme, slated for September or October this year.

"MFLS Go Global aims to bolster the international dimension of the MFLS Tier 3 programme by offering direct exposure through participation in and execution of youth initiatives on the global stage.

"This platform also fosters networking opportunities for participants with youths from other countries. MFLS Go Global has visited countries like Dubai, South Korea and Turkey," he added.

Mohd Haswandi also expressed hope that the 2024 MFLS Tier 3 participants would heed Malaysia MADANI's call to become exemplary leaders for the nation's future.

MFLS was initiated on May 3, 2019, by the Institute for Leadership Excellence and Development (i-LEAD) under the Ministry of Youth and Sports and as of Jan 1, 2023, i-LEAD was rebranded as AKM under the Prime Minister's Office.
