Kbs To Continue Monitoring Condition Of Kayaker Siti Nurul Masyitah

MELAKA, May 25 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) continues to monitor the condition and development of national kayak athlete Siti Nurul Masyitah Elias, 22, who was seriously injured in an accident and will focus on ensuring that the athlete recovers quickly.

Its minister Hannah Yeoh said KBS is also waiting for a full report from the doctor for further action and is looking for a way to help the athlete in ensuring that her welfare is always taken care of.

"KBS Deputy Minister Adam Adli Abd Halim together with the National Sports Council (MSN) have already visited her and we have been informed that Siti Nurul Masyitah who previously underwent three surgeries safely, will need to undergo several more surgeries.

"KBS takes very seriously the welfare of all athletes including those who are undergoing the rehabilitation process... no matter who they are including Faisal Halim (national footballer), they need time so we cannot rush," she said.

She told reporters after the Opening Ceremony of national level National Youth Day (HBN) 2024 at Dataran Pahlawan Banda Hilir here today.

The celebration was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and was also attended by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Yusoh and the Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.

Previously, the media reported that Siti Nurul Masyitah suffered a fractured right shoulder, hip bone and leg injuries as a result of being involved in an accident at Kilometre 3.5 of the East Disposal Link (EDL) recently.
