SEREMBAN, May 22 (Bernama) -- Grassroots leaders of each party in the Unity Government must translate the message conveyed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to the people so that they understand the rationale behind every initiative implemented.

Political secretary in the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president’s office Manivanan Gowin said at the same time, the party leadership and machinery must continue to engage with and assist those eligible to receive government-provided assistance through the various involved agencies.

“The approaches taken, being taken and to be taken by the Unity Government are not populist because the main focus is to ensure Malaysia's economy improves while the people can live safely and prosperously.

“Based on the feedback I received at the grassroots level, they hope that the drastic steps taken will help the people cope with the burden of rising living costs,” he said in a statement in conjunction with a three-day working visit to Negeri Sembilan.

He said along with state community leaders, he had the opportunity last night to listen to the national address delivered by the Prime Minister during a meeting at a hotel here, which was also attended by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

Towards this end, Manivanan urged all parties to give full support to the government's efforts to strengthen the economy and help the people through bold measures as announced by Anwar.

“This includes tackling corruption, overcoming leakages and introducing targeted subsidies, which have shown promising results based on positive economic indicators and increased aid for the people.

“At the same time, the relevant agencies need to enhance the effectiveness of aid delivery, while enforcement agencies need to increase monitoring to ensure no parties take advantage for profit or disrupt the peace,” he said.

He said the public also needs to be the ‘eyes and ears’ of the authorities and immediately report any abuse of power, misappropriation and fraud that could cause leakages and losses to the country and the people.
