KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 (Bernama) --  Iskandar Investment Bhd (IIB) is broadening its collaboration within the Global Business Services (GBS) Iskandar @ Medini initiative, joining forces with GBS Malaysia and iTrain Asia.

This move aligns with the dedication to positioning Medini as the first net-zero carbon Central Business District (CBD) in the region by 2030, the master developer of Iskandar Puteri in Johor said in a statement

IIB said it has inked memoranda of understanding with GBS Malaysia and iTrain Asia, along with forging a partnership with Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), to fortify the GBS ecosystem in Medini, Johor.

The collaboration with GBS Malaysia is geared towards establishing Medini as a premier regional hub for GBS operations, while the partnership with iTrain Asia focuses on initiatives to enhance skills in artificial intelligence, automation, and sustainability.

IIB also mentioned its anticipation of the forthcoming partnership with MDEC to drive foreign direct investments for the GBS industry.

This partnership, slated to be announced in the third quarter of this year, aims to attract new companies seeking a strategic and well-supported environment for expansion

President and chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Idzham Mohd Hashim highlighted that since its inception in 2016, the GBS Iskandar programme has attracted RM2.6 billion in investments and generated 6,500 jobs in Medini.

"As we embark on the next chapter of the GBS Iskandar initiative, IIB reaffirms our commitment to fostering growth and innovation within Malaysia's GBS sector," he said.

Idzham emphasised that the success of the GBS Iskandar @ Medini initiative is anchored by its strategic location, serving as a hub for multi-modal transportation with seamless connectivity by land, air, and sea.

He added, IIB is prepared to facilitate tailored solutions spanning incentives, strategic initiatives, talent development, and government liaison efforts, ensuring the prosperity of GBS companies in Medini's vibrant landscape.

Meanwhile, MDEC CEO Mahadhir Aziz said the partnership with IIB underscores the agency’s unwavering commitment to driving digital transformation, fostering talent development and boosting economic growth in the GBS sector.

"This collaboration seamlessly aligns with the Malaysia Digital national strategic initiative to advance Malaysia's digital infrastructure, provide comprehensive business support, and further solidify Malaysia’s position as the digital hub of ASEAN," added Mahadhir.
