KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Bernama) -- Approximately 2,000 religious and intellectual figures from 57 countries will participate in the most significant international conference of religious leaders hosted by the Asian continent commencing tomorrow.

In a statement, the Muslim World League (MWL) said the International Conference of Religious Leaders is a platform that will discuss several themes related to pluralism, tolerance, moderation, education, building bridges, and inclusive commonalities.

“The conference aims to emphasise the importance of religion in promoting world peace, consolidating solidarity among peoples, and exploring civilisational cooperation.

“In addition, it will launch initiatives emanating from the Charter of Makkah and highlight noble religious values,” the statement said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to officiate the conference tomorrow in the presence of the MWL’s Secretary-General and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Dr Mohammed Abdulkarim Al-Issa at Sunway Resort Hotel, Petaling Jaya in Selangor.

Meanwhile, the Conference of Asian Religious Scholars will take place on Wednesday at Mandarin Oriental in the capital.

Both events are organised by the Office of the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) and the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) in collaboration with MWL.
