KOTA KINABALU, May 4 (Bernama) -- Super League outfits Sabah FC and Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC will battle it out in the final of the SMJ Cup at the Likas Stadium here at 8 pm tomorrow.
KL City finished in first place and Sabah in second spot after the completion of the round-robin format, with Kuching City FC and Hougang United FC of Singapore squaring off in the third-placing playoff at 4 pm at the same venue.
Sabah head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee said that apart from playing to win, he hopes his team will avoid any serious injuries ahead of their opening Super League match on May 12.
“We will need all 25 (registered) players to be in peak form for the Super League campaign because there will definitely be injuries and suspensions to contend with,” he told a media conference here today after Sabah ended the round-robin format with one win and two draws.
KL City head coach Miroslav Kuljanac, meanwhile, said he was satisfied with his team’s performance in the SMJ Cup, having clinched two wins and a draw.
"It would be nice to win the Cup but, most importantly, we want to be ready and let the players get as much playing time as possible. We’re having a good time playing in the SMJ Cup,” he said.
On May 12, Sabah will face Penang FC while KL City will meet Kuching City in their opening Super League matches this season.
