Olympian Among New Faces In Nsc Management Board

KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 (Bernama) -- Olympian S. Suriaghandi and Hazlina Ab Aziz have been appointed as the new management board members of the National Sports Council (NSC) for the May 1 to April 30 2026 term.

NSC in a statement said, former national hockey player Suriaghandi, who had played in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, was appointed to replace former national swimming queen Nurul Huda Abdullah who will assume a new role as chairman of the Safe Sports Committee under the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Suriaghandi, holder of a Master's Degree in Business Management from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, is the former chief transformation officer and also the former group chief operating officer of KPJ Healthcare Berhad.

Before that, he also held senior positions in several large companies, including Khazanah Nasional Berhad, Parkway Group Healthcare in Singapore, Kumpulan Hospital Pantai, Salcon Green Energy in the UK and Shell Malaysia Retail Real Estate.

MSN announced that the representative of the Ministry of Finance, Hazlina replaced Idwan Ariff Abdul Rahman who had contributed for three terms to the board.

"Among the important decisions made by the MSN management board during these two years is the establishment of the Road to Gold (RTG) project, which focuses on winning the first gold medal at the Olympic Games, both this year in Paris and for the Los Angeles 2028 edition.

"The board also introduced the Athlete Employment Contract Scheme (SKPA) which converts allowance payments into salary payments with additional remuneration such as Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) contributions and Social Security Organisation (Socso) protection," according to the statement.

The management board also decided to review the National Coach Employment Scheme (SPJK) which is better for all coaches under the NSC programme as well as requiring escort officers for athletes participating in international tournaments.

Besides that NSC signed a Memorandum of Understanding agreement with Nippon Sports Science University (NSSU) on Feb 13, last year to help in the excellence of the country's high performance sports.
