ITS STILL LIKE A DREAM BECOMING LAWN BOWLING WORLD CHAMPION - FARAH AIN

29/04/2024 08:23 PM

SEPANG, April 29 (Bernama) -- Lawn bowler Nor Farah Ain Abdullah who won the gold medal in the women's individual event at the 2024 World Indoor Bowling Championships is still in disbelief that she was able to lift the trophy in her debut appearance on the world-class stage.

The 23-year-old athlete said she is now ready to shoulder the greater responsibility of flying the Jalur Gemilang in the eyes of the world at coming tournaments.

"First time representing a country in a tournament so far away made me feel like I'm dreaming despite  holding the gold medal. (There's still a feeling) am I really the champion?

"Because over there, the players are no pushovers but I just set in mind, to play. I was perhaps lucky. The important thing is to do the best and Alhamdulillah I got it," she told reporters after arriving at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) here this afternoon.

Farah Ain also contributed a bronze medal in the mixed pairs event with Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple, while Izzat Shameer himself also brought home a silver medal in the men's individual event.

She also dedicated the victory to all parties including the National Sports Council, the Malaysia Lawn Bowls Federation (MLBF) and the sponsors who tirelessly provided the support and help she needed.

Meanwhile, Izzat Shameer said that despite going through a bit of a drama' when his bag containing personal items and lawn bowling equipment was only found on the third day of training and it was really a harrowing experience.

"The first day (of training) was actually a bit of a struggle because the ball they provided was very different. There is nothing better than bowling with the familiar equipment, you will feel more confident," he said.

Izzat Shameer, who has made two appearances in 2013 and 2023, could only reached the quarter-finals, could not hide his happiness when his third attempt yielded results.

The 2024 World Indoor Bowling Championships in Guernsey, Channel Islands, concluded on Saturday (April 27).
