PJD LINK PROJECT DISCONTINUED - FAHMI

17/04/2024 09:42 PM

PUTRAJAYA, April 17 (Bernama) -- The Cabinet today decided to discontinue the construction of the Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link (PJD Link Expressway) highway project in Petaling Jaya area as the developer, PJD Link (M) Sdn Bhd (PJD Link) failed to meet a number of conditions precedent.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, who is also the spokesman for the Unity Government, said the decision also saw no extension of time after the conditions set failed to be met by the project concessionaire.

"The Cabinet today decided not to continue discussions with PJD Link (developer). PJD Link has applied for an extension to meet a number of conditions precedent but has been rejected by the government, and the decision is not to continue.

"As a result of that (failure to meet a number of conditions precedent), the project will not continue," he said at a press conference here today.

PJD Link is the concessionaire for the proposed PJD Link Expressway, which is a 25.4-kilometre two-lane (four-lane) dual carriageway, which starts after the NKVE toll plaza at SPRINT Expressway, Damansara. It ends at the intersection of the Bukit Jalil highway.

The implementation of the project is to improve traffic congestion and accommodate future vehicle growth in Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley. PJD Link signed a concession agreement with the Malaysian government on April 5, 2022.

Fahmi said the Ministry of Works will issue a statement regarding the matter in the near future.

In other developments, he said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his appreciation to the enforcement of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) for the successful enforcement activities to ensure sufficient supply of basic necessities and controlled prices during the Aidilfitri festival season.

"KPDN has been active in terms of enforcement to ensure that the prices of goods are under control and that there are no problems related to supplies such as chicken, eggs and so on.

"The response from the people so far has been positive," he said while describing the success as the first achieved by KPDN enforcement during the Aidilfitri festival season.
