BENTONG, April 10 (Bernama) -- While Muslims were joyously celebrating Aidilfitri today with their loved ones, a Malaysian National News Agency  (Bernama) journalist experienced a different situation as he received the sad news of losing his beloved father while on duty.

Ahmad Erwan Othman, 37, received the news at the Bernama headquarters after returning from covering His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia’s Aidilfitri gathering with the Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers and representatives of diplomatic missions this morning.

According to Ahmad Erwan, he received a phone call from one of his siblings at 12.45 pm informing him of their father's condition. Their father, Othman Ahmad, 71, had been critically ill due to Lymphoma cancer at their family home in Taman Bukit Indah here.

“After receiving the call, I immediately rushed home to pick up my wife and children and headed to my hometown.

“Alhamdulillah, I managed to arrive at the Tengku Sulaiman mosque in Ketari just before my father’s remains were shrouded (in white cloth),” he told Bernama.

Ahmad Erwan said his father had been battling stage four cancer since the end of last year, as well as experiencing heart problems.
