Ukm Continues To Empower Lifelong Learning

KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 (Bernama) -- Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) continues to empower lifelong learning at the university to ensure inclusive and high-quality education can be achieved by all levels of society.

UKM Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Ekhwan Toriman said UKM always ensures that educational opportunities are not limited to age or educational background.

He said the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) at the university provides an alternative route for all walks of life to continue their studies at Institutions of Higher Learning.

"APEL allows anyone to apply to continue their studies at UKM based on previous professional experience. UKM accepted a total of 260 students through APEL last year.

"The culture of lifelong learning is able to upgrade the quality of society's education in Malaysia from the primary education level to a higher qualification level while ensuring that more educational opportunities are available and accessible to individuals to improve their quality of life," he said in a statement.

According to the statement, UKM also introduced various modes and latest learning methods such as micro-credential, massive open online courses (MOOC), flexible learning, hybrid learning and blended learning.

In the meantime, UKM will fully empower the Academic Gig programme introduced in 2021.

"In total, we have made 55 appointments (teaching force) for Academic Gigs placed in various faculties and institutes. This year, UKM intends to further increase the number of appointments in this programme as part of efforts to improve quality and opportunities in the academic field," he said.
