04/03/2024 07:12 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 4 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation (MRANTI) is working on utilising the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) to solve the country's food security issues, said its chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff.

"Food security is a big issue, and recently, the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) has mandated MRANTI as the agency responsible for addressing national food security issues using 4IR. So we are working very hard in this area," he said after a tour of the MRANTI Park for media members here, today.

Rais said that MRANTI will explore more into this matter by taking Qatar as an example that utilises the 4IR in their food industry.

"Years back, they imported mainly everything, but today, they export milk, cheese, chicken, beef and vegetables. They are able to do it through 4IR, and they have reinvented the nation using 4IR," he said.

Rais added that using innovation to solve food security is important as it will help create good food practices and systems to increase yields and revenue.

He said that the other areas of innovation that MRANTI focuses on are drone technology, autonomous vehicles, health tech, 5G technologies and 4IR technology.
