Sultan Mizan Underwater Photography Awards Expected To Attract Over 1,000 Entrants

KUALA TERENGGANU, Feb 25 (Bernama) -- Over 1,000 participants are expected to enter the Sultan Mizan Underwater 2024 Photography Awards Competition which will commence on March 1.

State Tourism, Culture, Environment and Climate Change Committee deputy chairman, Sulaiman Sulong, said the competition, initiated by the Sultan of Terengganu Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, is expected to attract a large number of tourists due to its extended entry period from March 1 to Oct 31 this year.

He noted that the competition has no entry fee and is open to everyone, including Terengganu residents, local and foreign tourists..

"However, participants are required to submit proof of accommodation payment at a hotel, resort, or diving centre in Terengganu."

"The prizes will be presented by Sultan Mizan at a presentation ceremony to be held in 2025," he said at the launch of the Sultan Mizan Underwater 2024 Photography Award here today.

Sulaiman said the competition is anticipated to boost the tourism sector of the islands in the state, adding that last year, 330,528 tourists visited Pulau Redang,  Pulau Perhentian, Pulau Tenggol, Pulau Lang Tengah, Pulau Gemia, Pulau Kapas and Pulau Bidong.

“This competition serves as an annual event to promote the beauty of the beaches and the underwater treasures.

“Last year, Terengganu welcomed 3.6 million tourists, and this year we foresee that the number will increase to 4.5 million," he said.
