Fama Ready To Assist Farmers In Melaka To Sell Produce

MELAKA, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- The Federal Agricultural Marketing Agency (FAMA) is ready to assist fruit and vegetable farmers in Melaka who face difficulties in selling their produce, regardless of whether they are registered participants or not.

Melaka FAMA director Nor Azhar Abdul Hamid said if there was a surplus of agriculture produce, FAMA would take immediate measures to resolve the matter.

"Firstly, FAMA would check if the farmers are our marketing partners as they would be easier to assist, but even if they aren’t, FAMA would try to purchase the surplus to sell at our marketing outlets, such as farmers’ markets,” he told reporters after the officiation of the MADANI Agro Sale programme at Aeon Bandaraya Melaka by state Rural, Agriculture and Food Security Committee deputy chairman Low Chee Leong.

He said excess agricultural produce often occurs among farmers who do not receive advice from FAMA and conduct their own marketing, adding that the state FAMA has 100 marketing contract partners in the state currently.

In other developments, he shared that there would be seven special MADANI Agro Markets organised at existing farmers’ market sites, such as Bukit Katil, Tun Kudu, Jasin, Alor Gajah and Masjid Tanah, during the Ramadan month in Melaka to help consumers, especially Muslims, to obtain necessities including beef, chicken, cooking oil and sugar.
