SEREMBAN, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- The Works Ministry (KKR) has allocated RM135.8 million to Negeri Sembilan for the maintenance of roads, slopes, bridges and federal general-use buildings for this year.
The ministry, together with the Public Works Department, also expressed its commitment to implementing nine federal road development projects in the state, with a total allocation of RM1.2 billion.
“In line with the spirit and aspiration of the MyJalan programme, a delegation from KKR led by Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi recently visited Negeri Sembilan to listen to concerns regarding road infrastructures.
“KKR has also agreed to consider two additional proposals put forth by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, which involve the installation of Smart Traffic Lights (STL) at several locations on federal roads in the state,” it said in a statement.
According to the ministry, upgrading existing traffic lights to STL is a proactive measure to strengthen the implementation of high-impact innovations.
This year, an allocation of RM30 million has been approved for the implementation of STL at 148 intersections along federal roads nationwide, it added.
The statement further said that KKR, through the Malaysian Highway Authority, is currently engaged in negotiation with other agencies and proposing companies to plan the implementation of three highway privatisation projects in Negeri Sembilan, including the construction of the Paroi to Senawang Highway, which is prioritise by the state government.
“KKR also aims to expand the MyJalan programme nationwide to achieve the goal of maintaining Malaysian roads at their best condition through strategic collaboration between the federal and state governments and all relevant departments,” it said.
Meanwhile, Nanta, in a post on Facebook, said Aminuddin also voiced concerns about the quality of work carried out by concessionaire companies maintaining road infrastructure in Negeri Sembilan.
He said the state government has expressed willingness to participate in the MyJalan programme under the ministry’s purview.
