Smk Seri Duyong In Melaka Expected To Commence Operations In July

MELAKA, Feb 22 (Bernama) -- The construction of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seri Duyong capable of accommodating approximately 900 students is expected to be completed by the end of March at the latest and will begin operations in July.

Duyong assemblyman Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halem said initially, the school will admit students from Form One to Form Three, while full intake of students from Form One to Form Five will begin next year.

"Previously, in the Duyong state constituency, there were three secondary schools, namely SMK Tun Tijah, SMK Tinggi Perempuan Melaka, and Kolej Tingkatan Enam Tun Fatimah , which were quite far away, and most residents had to send their children to schools outside this area.

"However, with the presence of this new school, it will solve the problems of residents, especially in the Duyong area itself, and at the same time, further enhance the quality of education for children in this area," he told reporters in Semabok here today.

Earlier, he had attended the Back to School 2024 Programme by Theta Edge (a subsidiary of Tabung Haji) for 200 students in the constituency. Also present was Theta Group Technology Services head Effie Rizal Mustafa Kama.

Commenting further, Mohd Helmy said he was informed that the State Education Department had appointed administrators and was in the process of appointing teachers for SMK Seri Duyong.

Meanwhile, Effie Rizal said the company targeted the distribution of school assistance donations to 750 students for the first quarter of this year with an allocation of approximately RM75,000.

He said the Back to School Programme is part of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative #thetaCares to assist students from less fortunate families.

"This is one of our efforts to ease the burden of parents, and we will continue this effort by focusing on education-related assistance," he said.
