KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31 (Bernama) -- The inaugural Kuala Lumpur International Film Academy Awards (KLIFAA) 2024, which will take place from August  7 to 11 have so far received 1,058 entries from 98 countries since entries opened on January 12.

KLIFAA executive director Zafor Firoze said, he is confident that the number of entries will reach the highest number in the next three months when entries close on May 31.

He said KLIFAA aims to position itself as the main platform for filmmakers, industry practitioners and audiences around the world as well as being a pillar of global culture in the industry.

"We are confident that the awards committee has implemented a rigorous selection process to ensure that KLIFAA 2024 showcases the pinnacle of cinematic achievement and this has attracted filmmakers to submit their best work.

"We hope to get more participation because the quality of participation is the backbone of any festival," he said in a statement here today.

Zafor said, unlike other awards, KLIFAA, albeit being new, is not just an award but a celebration of global excellence in film and TV production.

“Our focus on inclusivity, diversity and fostering global impact through storytelling sets us apart. We open the space for categories such as feature films, TV dramas, documentaries, short films and animation," he said.

Commenting on the organisation of the event, KLIFAA president, Dr Hasan Hamzah while recognising the latest issues plaguing the local film community said KLIFAA wants to be a new force that drives the film industry while showcasing great works despite facing its own challenges.

"Just like the Cannes Film Festival which brings hope to the French film industry, we see KLIFAA also playing a similar role in nurturing local talent," he said in the same statement.
