KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 -- In commemorating its 60th anniversary and to honour its founders, the Leela Ratos Group has announced its intention to donate Malaysia's first Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine.
This machine, a symbol of Malaysia's early leadership in adopting advanced medical technology, was brought to the country in 1989, said a statement from the group.
The statement said this pioneering move placed Malaysia at the forefront of medical imaging in the region, second only to Singapore in Southeast Asia.
Over the years, this MRI machine has played a silent yet pivotal role in the evolution of Malaysia's healthcare sector. It has provided healthcare professionals with non-invasive, precise, and versatile diagnostic capabilities, significantly enhancing patient care.
Initially, the Biomedical Museum on Jalan Pahang showed great interest in acquiring this historic piece. However, due to the machine's considerable size, they reluctantly declined the offer.
The Leela Ratos Group is now seeking a new home for this important piece of Malaysia’s medical heritage. For more information or media inquiries regarding the donation of Malaysia's first MRI machine, please contact andre@leelaratos.com.
