KLANG, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- The National Registration Department (NRD) conducted a planned operation at several locations in Pulau Indah, Port Klang, early this morning to track down foreigners who have forged and misused identity cards.
The operation, which involved the Putrajaya Immigration Department (JIM), lasted until 5am, inspected 12 houses in seven locations, accompanied by media representatives.
In a statement today, the NRD said the operation was conducted based on intelligence and three people were arrested for being in possession of fake identity cards and using them to work in the country.
"All of them were brought to the NRD in Putrajaya for further investigation. They did not have identification documents but held Persatuan Bajau cards,” it said.
The department said all of them worked as welders. One of them was said to be a Filipino, while the other two claimed to be from Sabah.
"The operation, which involved 60 NRD and 23 JIM personnel, also recovered many copies of Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) cards and identity cards," the statement said.
The NRD also reminded employers to ensure that they hire workers with valid identity documents.
