KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 (Bernama) - Compound archer Nur Jannaton Abdul Jalil will focus on sharpening her archery technique in an effort to provide tough competition in her debut performance at the Paralympic Games in Paris scheduled for Aug 28 to Sept 8.

The 29-year-old said that she is determined to acquire a solid technique to showcase consistent gameplay in every match she participates in this year.

She mentioned that she undergoes training for at least six hours every day to realise her dream of performing brilliantly in the prestigious event.

"In terms of training, next week will start fully training as usual because in these first two weeks, I still had light training after the off-season at the end of last year.

"Preparations in terms of mental, physical, and equipment still need a lot of improvement. However, the coach and the National Sports Council (MSN) will expedite the preparation of the equipment," she said when contacted by Bernama recently.

Nur Jannaton said she will compete in the Hong Kong Para Open from Feb 3 to 5 and make an appearance at the Para Archery World Ranking Tournament in Dubai in March as a warm-up before heading to Paris.

Asked about the main challengers at the Paris Paralympics, she stated that India are expected to provide tough competition.

"I am not targeting any medals because this is my first Paralympics. For me, every opponent is formidable. Each has their own strengths, but the toughest will be archers from India," said Nur Jannaton, currently ranking 35th in the world para rankings.

At the Para Archery Asia Continental Qualification Tournament in Bangkok last November, Nur Jannaton  won a silver medal in the women's compound event, thus securing a slot to compete in the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

Nur Jannaton also made history as the first female para archer to qualify on merit for the Paralympic Games since Malaysia's participation in the event in 1972.
