National Art Gallery Features Young Artist, Dhan Illiani In 'Hanya Satu: Niyat' Exhibition

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 8 (Bernama) -- The National Art Gallery is organising the "Hanya Satu: NIYAT” exhibition from Dec 25 to Feb 19, featuring Dhan Illiani, an active young artist from a thriving local art collective called KolmeGlu.

It said in a statement today 'NIYAT' is the sixth exhibition in the Single series, which serves as a space for artistic creation and a platform for provocative ideas while honouring and recognising young contemporary artists.

"'NIYAT' is a term derived from 'Niat' (intention) in Malay and 'Niyyah' in Arabic, both having similar explicit and implicit meanings, which is also Dhan Illiani’s pseudonym.

"This artist is not only a multidisciplinary artist but also a national ice hockey player preparing for the 2025 SEA Games. One of her 'NIYAT' is to promote the understanding of the niche sport, among the public," read the statement.

It added that this free exhibition will also feature a supporting programme combining art and sport in a performance titled 'Niyat Hoki', featuring her hockey teammates and emphasising the discipline and common processes between the two forms of expression.

“Although seemingly contradictory, arts and sports have tangible and intangible relationships, often overlooked by the general public.

"The inspiration for this art performance comes from the different reactions, perceptions and views of society concerning sports involving young women,” it added.
