KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 7 (Bernama) -- Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), through the TaHa Club, aims to continue organising the National-Level Musabaqah Cilik TaHa programme in the coming years, with plans to broaden its reach to include secondary school students.
In a statement, TH said that the primary objective of the Musabaqah Cilik TaHa, held since 2022, was to cultivate reading habits and instil a love for the Quran among school students.
On Dec 22 last year, the National-Level Musabaqah Cilik TaHa 2023 was held at the TH Grand Hall, Menara TH here, and was live-streamed on TH’s official Facebook page.
The programme is exclusively for TH depositors who are members of the TaHa Club, aged 7 to 12 years, to showcase their potential and talent in reciting Quranic verses.
The Musabaqah Cilik TaHa 2023 has been held in every state since September last year, receiving more than 1,000 participants.
The Qari and Qariah (male and female reciters) who won the state-level competition progressed to the regional level involving the Northern, Central, Southern, Eastern, as well as Sabah and Sarawak regions, before vying for the champion titles at the National-Level Musabaqah Cilik TaHa 2023.
Muhammad Aqeef Ahmad Zuhdi, 12, representing the Northern Region, was crowned as the Qari champion, while Nur Qiesya Zhafirah Mohammad Ramdan, 10, representing the Sabah/Sarawak Region, was named the Qariah champion.
Each received a cash prize of RM1,000 along with souvenirs from the TaHa Club.
In the same statement, TH’s executive director of operations, Mohamed Ameen Abdul Wahab, said that the competition was part of TH’s initiatives to instil love for the Quran among school students.
He also said that it was an effort by TH to engage with young depositors besides sharing the benefits of saving in this Islamic financial institution.
“TH believes that this programme can attract the interest of school students, making it a stepping stone for them to represent the country on the international stage, insya-Allah,” he said.
