BATU GAJAH, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- To boost Visit Perak Year (TMP) 2024, the Perak Bumiputera Tourism Entrepreneurs Association (PPPBP) in collaboration with the Pekan Kartun management, is organising the 9th edition of the Pekan Kartun programme.
PPPBP chairman, Zamari Muhyi, said that the event, held at Kellie’s Castle, spans two days starting yesterday and features different activities compared to the previous years.
He added that one of the main objectives of this programme is to serve as a platform fostering connections among cartoon art enthusiasts nationwide, emphasising the art of doodle drawing or scribbles.
"Artistic expression is gaining more popularity among art enthusiasts, and this year it's even more exciting as we organise a doodle drawing competition on drum barrels, limited to only 20 participants.
"Usually, artists paint on flat surfaces, but this time the challenge is for them to showcase their creativity on a curved surface. It's something new for doodle artists to express various forms of artwork, whether abstract or random," he said during an interview today.
Zamari added that one of the distinctive features showcased in Pekan Kartun V9 this time is a riverside camp that attracted 130 participants, along with a 'Free Palestine' colouring competition, outdoor cinema, and river fishing activities.
"The Pekan Kartun routine includes a 24-Hour Drawing Challenge, which is synonymous with the event, including sessions with invited cartoonists and seminars related to painting.
"In addition, various other events and activities have been introduced to further liven up the programme, such as music performances, animated shows, and vendor sales," he said.
Zamari added that they have received participation from the Chenderoh, Pasir Salak, and Teluk Intan Community Colleges, which organised workshops and briefings on painting.
"Besides organising competitions, Pekan Kartun V9 also includes scientific forums to enhance its content and appeal.
"For this reason, we are conducting discourse-style programmes so that matters related to the cartoon art industry are explored and not overlooked," he said.
He added that the doodle artworks from the competition will be displayed at Kellie’s Castle offering visitors an alternative attraction to the historic building.
