Penang Port To Offer Ferry Chartering Service As New Income Stream

08/12/2023 08:56 PM

GEORGE TOWN, Dec 8 (Bernama) -- Penang Port Sdn Bhd plans to charter one of its ferries to interested companies or individuals to generate a new income stream.

Chief executive officer Datuk Sasedharan Vasudevan said the company sees huge potential in the move as it has received a lot of enquiries from interested parties to hold private events.

"People are already talking to us and showing their interest in chartering the ferry," he told reporters at the soft launch of the Penang Bridge Sunset Cruise Buffet here today.

He added that the port operator currently has a total of four ferries, only one of which is open for chartering activity.

The first two ferries are used for daily operations to carry pedestrians and two-wheelers during non-peak hours, while the third ferry would be used during peak hours.

Commenting on the Penang Bridge Sunset Cruise Buffet, he said this service would commence on Dec 16 and would be able to accommodate up to 100 pax (persons) per trip.

"For this service, Sea Queen Restaurant is chartering our ferry every Saturday and Sunday to offer this buffet sunset cruise at a price of RM148 per adult and RM68 per child.

"This is something different, and the target is to hold 80-100 trips in the first year," he added.
