KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- The Education Ministry (MoE) has taken immediate measures to strengthen the implementation of redevelopment projects for dilapidated schools nationwide.

The ministry, in a statement today, said among the early steps taken were expanding the project scope to include all buildings and facilities, as well as using an impact score (scale of 1 to 7) to determine the priority list for the implementation of replacement projects for buildings or facilities rated at Scale 7 and Scale 6.

MoE said this follows the Auditor-General's Report (LKAN) on the performance of dilapidated school building redevelopment projects for the year 2022.

“The Dilapidated School Construction Project is one of the initiatives of the Special Task Force for Public Sector Reform (STAR) to improve and enhance the implementation process of rebuilding dilapidated buildings in schools, thereby ensuring the delivery of quality education services,” the statement read.

It also said that this year, STAR, chaired by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali, was established in line with the aspirations of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to enhance the productivity of the public sector.

The MoE said it has also established steering and technical committees to coordinate implementation issues at various levels and also to report the current status of projects at the Malaysia MADANI Action Council meetings.

“The government's proactive steps have shown positive results. As of November 2023, a total of 689 out of 996 dilapidated school building redevelopment projects have been fully completed, while 120 projects are under construction, and the remaining 187 projects are in various pre-construction stages,” the ministry said.

The ministry also said it was committed to continuously strengthening the management and implementation of dilapidated school building redevelopment projects for the benefit of the entire community, especially school fraternities.
