KUCHING, Nov 21 (Bernama) -- Political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Michael Mujah Lihan, has been elected as a Senator at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly sitting today.
Michael, 61, is to replace Senator Datuk Dr Nuing Jeluing, who will end his term as a senator on Dec 10.
State Assembly Speaker, Tan Sri Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, said that since Michael was the only candidate nominated, he was then announced as a member of the Dewan Negara without a voting process.
Earlier, Michael's election motion was proposed by Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, and seconded by Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
Uggah, in his proposal, said Michael has served as political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak from 2016 until now.
He said that Michael had also served as the Belaga Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) chief from 2009 to 2016, and is now the Murum PBB chief, since 2016.
“In addition, he was a member of the PBB Supreme Council, from 2010 to 2022. He is also active in various non-governmental organisations, such as the Federation of Orang Ulu Associations of Sarawak Malaysia (Forum),” he said.
Born in Belaga, Sarawak, on Oct 6, 1962, Michael has extensive experience in administration and politics.
