KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 (Bernama) — The Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) marked another achievement after receiving the International Standards Organisation and International Electrotechnical Commission ISO/IEC 17024:2012 Certification from the Department of Standards Malaysia (DSM) today.
The ISO/IEC 17024:2012 is a certification for Conformity Assessment: General Requirements for Bodies Operating Certification of Persons, which is an international recognition in the assessment and accreditation of construction personnel competency.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said CIDB received the ISO/IEC for three construction trades highly in demand in the Oil & Gas sector, namely; Welding, Non-destructive Testing (NDT) and Blasting and Painting.
“With the ISO/IEC certification, all Construction Skills Competency Certification or Sijil Kompetensi Kemahiran Pembinaan (SKKP) issued by CIDB Malaysia for these three competency areas, will be recognised internationally.
“Skills competency training in Welding, NDT and blasting and painting training for youth and construction personnel is available at CIDB’s wholly owned training centres, namely the Akademi Binaan Malaysia (ABM) and CIDB Tech,” he said.
Nanta said this in his launching remarks at the opening ceremony of International Construction Week (ICW) 2023 and Malaysia International Building and Construction Industry Showcase (BuildExpo Malaysia) at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here today.
The certificate was presented at the event by General Director of DSM Shaharul Sadri Alwi to
chairman of CIDB Malaysia, Yusuf Abd Wahab.
Meanwhile, Yusuf said this year ICW marks it 22nd edition with the theme “Leading ESG in Construction” and coming up with a brand new mega expo, the BuildExpo 2023.
He said the grandiose exhibition covering the whole supply chain of the construction industry, was meticulously organised by its exhibition partner, QUBE Integrated Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
“In this inaugural BuildXpo, we are witnessing over 500 exhibition booths from more than 50 participating companies, all eager to showcase their groundbreaking innovations.
“We anticipate at least 10,000 trade visitors to attend and explore in person, the latest trends, developments, and technologies in the construction industry,” he said.
The ICW 2023 takes place at MITEC, Kuala Lumpur from Nov 15 to 17 and is open to public from 9 am to 4.30 pm.
