LABUAN, Nov 13 (Bernama) – A football team Putra AFT Kota Belud, coached by former national football sensation Matlan Marjan emerged victorious in the prestigious senior Inter-Borneo football tournament for the Datuk Hassan Sani Trophy LAFA 2023.
Putra AFJ secured their triumph and a cash prize of RM15,000 by defeating the Mixed Squad from Brunei with a commanding score of 3-1 in the final at Dataran Labuan field last night.
The Labuan Synthetic Field and Dataran Labuan football field played host to the three-day tournament, which featured a total of 36 teams representing Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei, and Labuan from Nov 10 to 12.
Labuan Football Association (LAFA) president Sophian Said expressed satisfaction with the success of the event, noting that it attracted a substantial crowd of more than 10,000 spectators to the island.
He said the tournament not only showcased top-tier football talent but also significantly contributed to the local economy.
“The Datuk Hassan Sani Trophy LAFA 2023 brought together teams from across Borneo, fostering a spirit of competition and sportsmanship,” he said.
