ALOR GAJAH, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- The improvements of modules in the 'Kem Kami Anak Malaysia’ programme has successfully increased the spirit of patriotism and fostered unity among students
The Melaka National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) director, Intan Suhana Yusuff said it had also enhanced the students’ knowledge, understanding, appreciation and practice of the principles of Rukun Negara in their daily lives.
She said the improvements included aspects of cross-cultural understanding and heritage, which are important for young people to comprehend, preserve and adapt them into their lives as adults.
She added that being the second state out of the three states selected to implement the programme under the Kembara Perpaduan Programme, namely Perak, Melaka and Kedah, the modules had undergone several improvements after being organised in Perak and that, for the first time, the modules in Melaka focused on cross-cultural aspects.
"As part of these improvements, participants in the camp will use chopsticks during breakfast and eat from banana leaves during dinner, while cooking demonstrations featuring dishes from the Portuguese and Baba Nyonya ethnic communities will also be carried out.
"These module enhancements aim to create a moment of unity for the students, even if it’s a small one, and for them to carry these experiences into adulthood. The hope is that when the programme is conducted in Kedah, further improvements will be made for implementation in the following years,” she said.
She told reporters this after officiating the closing ceremony of the Melaka state-level 'Kem Kami Anak Malaysia’ 2023 programme at Kem Wawasan Negara Alor Gajah here today.
Intan Suhana said the programme had the potential to be introduced to students in institutions of higher learning (IPT) to ensure that the principles of Rukun Negara are well understood and embraced by the younger generation, adding that 256 Rukun Negara Clubs (KRNs) have been set up in the state.
